Carbon Fiber Sheets Advantages

01/

Lightweight: Carbon fiber is low in density and extremely light. Due to its high strength-to-weight ratio, the carbon sheet is considered better than steel.

02/

High tensile strength: When it comes to tensile strength, carbon sheets are one of the strongest among all other commercial fibers and sheets. Carbon sheets are difficult to bend or stretch.

03/

Low thermal expansion: One issue with industrial materials is that they tend to expand or contract in temperature changes, which disturbs the industry's overall performance.

04/

Resistive towards corrosion: If the carbon fiber sheet is made with appropriate resin, it will be one of the most corrosion-resistant materials in the market.

05/

Radiolucence: Carbon fiber sheets are invisible in X-rays and transparent to radiation. That’s why they have numerous medical applications.

06/

Ultraviolet resistant: If proper resins are used, they will be UV resistant too.

07/

Electrical conductivity: They are good conductors of electricity, and this property increases their range of applications.

08/

Durability: Carbon fiber sheets do not wear out as easily as any other material. That is because they have exceptional fatigue properties.

Features of Our Carbon Fibre Plates

Our carbon plates are manufactured using the thermal high-pressure pressing process. By pressing the individual layers under high pressure, we achieve carbon panels with a high proportion of fiber volume. As a result, our carbon panels have good flatness and low thickness fluctuations. All carbon fiber plates that we deliver from stock are made of bidirectional fabric throughout. We use a high-strength epoxy resin matrix with excellent impact strength as the matrix material.

Unidirectional Fiber Structure
All fibers in the laminate are aligned in the same direction = unidirectional or UD. This structure is used in particular when forces are to be absorbed in a specific load direction or large component lengths are to be displayed in relation to a small component width, such as leaf springs or the like.

Bidirectional Fiber Construction
Carbon fiber orientation in a bi-directional laminate occurs in two directions. All our standard formats in stock have this fiber structure, in which the fiber angle to each other is 0° and 90°. The plates are made entirely of high-quality carbon fabric - this is also referred to as full-fabric CFRP plates. The top layers of the carbon plates have a fabric with a 2/2 twill weave, which gives you an elegant depth effect with the typical carbon look. The surface is blank with a slight sheen. Due to the excellent characteristic properties of the bidirectional carbon fiber plates, they are particularly suitable for the production of components, milled parts or drawing parts.

Quadraxial Fiber Structure
In a laminate with a quasi-isotropic layer structure we find 4 fiber directions. Components made from this material have approximately the same mechanical properties in all load directions. The carbon material behaves almost isotropically due to the arrangement of the fiber angles in 0° / +45° / -45° (=135°) / 90°.

Surfaces
We can manufacture carbon plates with different surfaces, specially adapted to your needs. Here you generally have the choice between 4 different surfaces:

  • Press blank
  • Mate
  • High gloss finish
  • Peel ply

If you need support in choosing the right surface for your application, we look forward to advising you personally.

Cut To Measure
We cut our carbon plates to your desired size. Depending on the geometry and required tolerance, we have various processes to choose from. This enables us to offer the cut at economical conditions.

CNC Machining According to Drawing
We manufacture drawing parts individually according to your specifications. In order to be able to make you an offer, simply send us a drawing as a PDF, DXF or STP file. We can process components with a maximum length of up to 6000mm. Depending on the requirements of the component, methods such as water jet cutting, grinding or milling are used. If you need support during your design process, let our experts in the field of fiber composite technology advise you - we are happy to be there for you by e-mail, telephone or video conference.

What Does a Carbon Fiber Plate Do in Running Shoes?

Paired with the right type of foam, a carbon fiber plate provides a shoe with the rigidity and pop necessary to make running at speed more efficient. Carbon fiber is a lightweight, stiff material, the perfect qualities for enhancing a shoe's race-ready capabilities. Whereas traditional racing flats relied purely on their light weight to assist runners on race day, modern super shoes pair a lightweight form with the functional benefits of buoyant foam and responsive carbon plates.
Carbon fiber plates are placed in the middle of a shoe's midsole foam, so there is a layer of foam between the plate and the ground and another layer of foam between the plate and the runner's foot. Plates come in various shapes and sizes depending on the mission of the running shoe they're in. In race day shoes, plates are commonly given a swooping shape that mimics the curvature of a foot with toes pointing slightly upward. Here are three key benefits to carbon-plated running shoes.

Better Energy Return

Energy return is the runner's term of art for bounciness—i.e., a shoe with high energy return has more propulsive qualities than a shoe with low energy return. A carbon fiber plate helps increase energy return because it stores and rapidly releases energy during each stride. When you land, the plate gets loaded with your weight and converts your kinetic energy into potential energy for your next stride, releasing and propelling you forward when you pick up your foot. Without the carbon fiber plate, some of the downward energy you put into the ground on each stride is absorbed by the shoe's midsole foam rather than given back to you.

Increased Stabilization & Toe-Off

In race day shoes, carbon fiber plates stabilize the foot to help with toe-off, i.e., the acceleration of a runner's shoe from contacting the ground in a parallel position to springing into the next stride. Plates, due to their rigidity, keep the foot and toes straight, which channels the downward force into forward motion. A shoe's rocker geometry can also enhance the toe-off experience.

Reduced Fatigue

The carbon fiber plate's contributions to energy return and foot stability combine to make an efficient running package. This reduces the energy expended on each step, which can add up over the course of a long race like a half marathon or marathon. This is why it may feel easier to run at your race pace in a carbon fiber shoe than your non-plated daily trainer—you're likely using less effort to run at the same speed.

Fun Uses for Carbon Fiber Sheets

Carbon fiber is a versatile material, and these are only some of its many uses. Your imagination is almost the only limit. To get the most out of carbon fiber sheets or products, always choose the highest quality, or work with a manufacturer that understands the complexities of carbon composites. Whether you have a project in mind or looking for some eye-catching items, once you get your hands on carbon composite, you'll want to use it for everything.

Automotive Uses

Carbon fiber has a high strength to weight ratio, making it ideal for motorsports. In 1981, theMcLaren MP4/1 Formula Onerace car was the first with a chassis made entirely from carbon fiber. Since then, the automotive world has been obsessed with this lightweight material.
It's used for many parts to save weight without compromising strength. But, composite sheets are often sought after for cosmetic reasons and have become a familiar sight in luxury car interiors.
With carbon fiber sheets, you can customize your car for a high-end sports look. The most common cosmetic uses are: Gearshifts; Instrument panels and dashboards; Gas caps; Mudflaps; Door panels and pillars; Vents; Sound systems and speaker fronts.
You can also replace your metal or plastic car badge with a custom-made carbon fiber one. Ask your supplier about cutting and milling services.

Robotics

Robotics enthusiasts favor carbon fiber sheets on flat surfaces over almost any other material for many reasons. But above all, the lightweight sheets enable faster movements while using less power. It's also more cost-effective than most other options.

Sports Equipment

For sports lovers, nothing beats carbon fiber equipment. The last decade of the 20th century saw many innovations, and due to better fabrication methods, it became more accessible to non-professional athletes.
Since then, using composite carbon fiber materials for lightweight sporting goods hasn't slowed down.
More recently, though, carbon fiber gave snowboards a much-needed upgrade. Carbon fiber plates help distribute pressure over a greater distance. As a result, boards flex more naturally. Some boards even come in different flex levels, and you can have it tailored to your liking. What's more, it's virtually indestructible.

Drones

Building drones from composite sheets have many advantages. Carbon sheets are relatively easy to process and cut, so there's no need for costly mold making. Besides, drones depend heavily on weight. Using carbon fiber, you gain the benefit of longer flights, more precise movements, added strength and increased carrying capacity for cameras or other equipment.

Aviation

Aircraft kits make it possible to build your own high-performance plane in your garage. Although composite aircraft construction is not a new idea, a series of innovative designs make it easier and much faster to build your plane than ever before.
The latest models replace much of the fiberglass construction with lighter carbon fiber.

What Are Ways to Distinguish Between Real and Fake Carbon Fiber?

There are several ways to distinguish between real and fake carbon fiber, including:

Visual Inspection

Real carbon fiber has a distinctive weave pattern that is uniform and consistent. Fake carbon fiber often has a less uniform or fake-looking weave pattern.

Weight

Real carbon fiber is lightweight and strong, while fake carbon fiber is often heavier and less durable.

Price

Real carbon fiber is more expensive than fake carbon fiber, so if a product is priced significantly lower than others, it may be a fake.

Quality

Real carbon fiber is made from high-quality materials and has a smooth surface finish, while fake carbon fiber is often made from lower quality materials and has a rough surface finish.

Equipments

Toconfirm the authenticity of carbon fiber, there are several testing equipment or methods that can be used, including:
Infrared spectroscopy
This method can identify the specific chemical composition of a material and can differentiate between real and fake carbon fiber.
X-ray fluorescence (XRF)
This method can determine the elemental composition of a material and can differentiate between real and fake carbon fiber.
Tensile testing
This method measures the strength and stiffness of a material by applying tension to it. Real carbon fiber will have a high strength and stiffness, while fake carbon fiber will have a lower strength and stiffness.
Microscopy
This method involves examining the material under a microscope to look for any inconsistencies or imperfections that may indicate fake carbon fiber.

Frequently Asked Questions about Carbon Fibre Plates

Q:What is a carbon fiber plate?

A: Carbon fiber plate is a composite material composed of carbon fiber strands and resin. The resulting product is light, yet strong and durable. Carbon fiber plates come in many different types to fit a variety of applications and industries, including automotive and aerospace.

Q: What is carbon fiber and why use it?

A: Carbon fiber (also known as carbon fibre) stands out in the materials world as one of the strongest and most lightweight materials on the market. Five times stronger than steel and one-third its weight, carbon fiber composites are ideal for any application that requires strength, durability, lightweight, and speed. You’ll see it most commonly in aviation and aerospace, robotics, medical equipment, unmanned aerial vehicles, race cars, boats, and all kinds of sports equipment from paddles and racquets, and bicycles to kayaks. And that doesn’t even count all the ways it’s used just for the way it looks!

Q: What are the standard thicknesses for carbon fiber?

A: Standard thicknesses vary slightly among manufacturers. Our carbon fiber sheets range from 0.25mm (.010”) to 3.4mm (.133”) carbon fiber plates. Custom thicknesses up to .5” are available on request. We specialize in manufacturing customized layups, incorporating different materials and weaves as needed, to address the specific needs of your application.

Q: How to cut carbon fiber?

A: Thin carbon fiber sheets (up to .5mm) can be cut with scissors or a sharp razor knife. For thicker carbon fiber plates and panels, abrasive cutting wheels and Dremel tools are best. We recommend using carbide tools, abrasive type cutters, or diamond-crusted blades. Regular steel tools will do the job, but carbon fiber’s strength and abrasiveness will wear down standard tools quickly. Once your piece is cut, you can sand the edges very lightly with 220 grit sandpaper for a smooth, clean edge.

Q: What is carbon fiber mainly used for?

A: Carbon fiber-reinforced composite materials are used to make aircraft and spacecraft parts, racing car bodies, golf club shafts, bicycle frames, fishing rods, automobile springs, sailboat masts, and many other components where light weight and high strength are needed.

Q: Why is carbon fiber so special?

A: Carbon fiber is a low density material with a very high strength to weight ratio. This means that carbon fiber is tough without getting bogged down like steel or aluminum, making it perfect for applications such as cars or airliners.

Q: Is carbon fiber waterproof?

A: If you need a material that is weather-resistant and waterproof, carbon fiber might be a top choice. Carbon fiber is waterproof and resistant to weather when treated to be so. It is suitable for products that need to be mold resistant and easy to clean and disinfect.

Q: Are carbon fiber plates bulletproof?

A: Carbon fiber is generally not as effective as traditional ballistic materials such as steel or Kevlar at stopping high-velocity bullets such as handguns. Carbon fiber's ability to withstand bullets will vary depending on the caliber and velocity of the bullet.

Q: Is carbon fiber plastic?

A: Carbon fiber is a kind of composite material, also known as carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP), which are composite materials made of carbon fibers and resin (mainly epoxy resin). As light, strong, and hard materials, they are used in a wide range of applications such as sporting goods, industrial, aircraft, and automobile components.

Q: How strong is a carbon fiber plate?

A: The ultimate tensile strength of Carbon Fiber is typically 600-700 KSI (4-4.8 Gpa). Compare this with 2024-T3 Aluminum, which has a modulus of only 10 MSI and an ultimate tensile strength of 65 KSI, or with 4130 Steel, which has a modulus of 30 MSI and an ultimate tensile strength of 125 KSI.

Q: Does carbon fiber crack in the sun?

A: While the UV light does not destroy the carbon fibers themselves, it can cause premature degradation of sheets and panels by degrading their epoxy resin. In this respect, not all carbon fiber products are UV stable.

Q: When will get my order?

A: Usually, the lead time of batch orders is about 2 weeks excluding CNC machining, coating or cutting services; If with special treatment, production time is around 3~4 weeks.

Q: Why is carbon fiber sheet more expensive than products made of traditional materials?

A: There are three primary reasons for this:
1. Carbon fiber raw materials are expensive.
2. Carbon fiber with many high performances, lightweight, high strength, chemicals/UV/erosion resistance, low thermal expansion, etc.
3. Complex production process

Q: What are the thickness of carbon fiber sheets you offer?

A: We customize carbon fiber sheets in various thicknesses from 0.5mm to 50mm. 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 4mm and 5mm carbon fiber sheets are used widely.
